1951 Marx, Roll Over Cat in Original Box

1951 Marx, Roll Over Cat in Original Box

Classic clockwork tin litho Marx toy featuring patented "roll-over" action. Excellent condition with original illustrated box and original key.

Patterned after Marx's 1940 Figaro toy from Pinocchio, the Roll Over Cat moves forward causing the ball to spin. At the same time the tail revolves in a clockwise direction which eventually rolls the cat over on its side. The tail continues to revolve which uprights the cat. It then continues on its way. This roll over action is what usually breaks off the rubber ears.

The toy was produced in four different versions. This one is all metal and rolls a brightly colored yellow metal ball with red stars between the front paws. A solid yellow or red wooden ball was also used.  Every surface including the underside is lithographed to make it look more realistic as it revolves. It also comes with it's correct die cast metal key.

Best of all the toy comes with its scarce red, white, and blue original box. It shows several cartoon-like illustrations of the cat scrambling across the floor trying to hold onto the ball. Three cat-type buddies watch from the background.

Size: 5½" long.
